Art Opening :: Erick Nelson :: Fast Acting Relief
Add to Calendar
Fast Acting Relief is a collection of work, both new and old, that ties together several years of relief printmaking in Jackson. Born of a life lived in the mountains, and tied with graphic iconography, each piece is meant to be read as a visual one-liner. I leave the viewer place each within the context of their own experience, rather than providing that context for them, so that any depth of interpretation is true. I do my best to take simple things—the gesture of a hand, a skull found in the woods, an omniscient slice of pizza—and present them starkly and honestly, and maybe sometimes with a little humor.
Erick grew up in Massachusetts the son of a Teacher and a Designer and has been making art since he could hold a crayon. After graduating from Colorado College with a focus in painting and printmaking, he moved to Jackson in 2012 to pursue a life in the mountains. He has shown here in Jackson and in Denver, Colorado, working at Teton Artlab, the Art Association, and his kitchen table. In addition to printmaking and design, he guides for Dave Hansen Whitewater. He enjoys getting in the mountains, on the river, and the company of good-hearted dirtbags.
